Joanne Wong grew up in Hertfordshire, UK; being a child of Hong Kong Chinese immigrant parents who were often working long hours, her and her siblings were occasionally causing chaos at home much to the dismay of their grandmother. Her childhood was spent drawing funny pictures, watching warner bros cartoons on VHS, reading books and creating obstacle courses in the living room with her 2 brothers.
Still drawing through the years, Joanne went on to receive a M.A. in Illustration from University of Arts London at Camberwell College.
Curious about the world, Joanne moved to Asia to explore her cultural roots. After juggling several years as a primary art teacher and a freelance illustrator in Hong Kong, she decided that it was time to go full time as an illustrator and writer. Joanne is currently working on her own picture book stories; she is inspired by heart-warming stories as well as the absurd.
Her ‘go - to’ art materials are gouache, watercolour, coloured pencils and sometimes on procreate. Joanne's work is inspired by travel, vintage children's books and cute pets.
Joanne currently lives in the sub-tropical countryside of Hong Kong with her husband and pet rabbit.
Her favourite things include; walks in nature, a good night sleep, tea lattes, bunnies and sketching with friends.
